Violence Against Women MUST Stop

Every day, Every week, Every month
Another sad statistic.
Domestic violence is reaching epidemic proportions and we seem not to care.
What is going on???
Misogyny and Patriarchal society fighting back?
What are our churches and mosques doing about this? Why are they not speaking out publicly and unequivocally about this?
Rather than calling out pregnant unwed girls to the pulpit for public disgrace; why not call out abusive spouses? Why allow them to hide under their heavy tithe envelopes and cover up for them while their families bear the brunt of their wickedness in private?
Some of us know women who are being bullied and beaten by their husbands. Sometimes they drag them out to the middle of the street and pummel them in public. We turn our faces and walk on by. We know women who constantly show up with black eyes and bruises. We pretend everything is ok. We even have family members being abused and we happily say "there is no room in this house for divorced women"
"Marriage has its ups and downs"
"Just pray for God to change him"
"Get to know what upsets him and don't do it again"
"Your case is not even that bad"
"It is the woman that builds her home"
"What will people say? Don't carry your problems outside. People will laugh at you"
"God hates divorce"
Violence against Women - it's all around us. From little girls to aged women. From househelps to corpers to pastors wives. From our neighborhoods to our offices.
If you see something, please say something. DO something. It IS your business. You may be the last point of succor for that person. You may be the voice of reason that can save a life.
"There was a girl I used to know
She was oh so beautiful
But she's not here anymore
She had a college degree
Smart as anyone could be
She had so much to live for
But she fell in love
With the wrong kinda man
He abused her love and treated her so bad
There was not enough education in her world
That could save the life of this little girl
How come, how long
It's not right, it's so wrong
Do we let it just go on
Turn our backs and carry on
Wake up, for it's too late
Right now, we can't wait
She won't have a second try
Open up your hearts
As well as your eyes."
**Please I'm in pain right now. If you are tempted by the devil to come here and talk about the evils of feminism or how the bible says submit I will insult your ENTIRE lineage before blocking you.
This post is about LIVES being lost. Use your brain.

All Our National Identity is in Crisis

Any serious government should realise that our NIMC is of topmost priority. Full implementation of the NIN and integration with other methods of identification ie passports, BVN, drivers license, PVC etc should be on the front burner. The system should be up and running before the next election cycle begins.
Until we know who is who and who is not who in our country virtually every other system - legal, education, health, social welfare, security - will not function properly.
By now the NIMC should be in a state of emergency. No one working there should get more than 3 hours of sleep a night. Lol. Seriously.
But this is Nigeria. We excel at majoring on minors.

Shame on us. All of us.

I had promised myself not to say anything but watching Obama's news conference just now has moved me. Please watch it and learn.
This weekend I felt so ASHAMED to be a Nigerian. I've always known our homegrown capacity for crass insensitivity and tactlessness but rarely have I witnessed us export it internationally in such a disgraceful and disgusting way.
To gatecrash your colleagues father's funeral to loudly complain that her guests did not attend your father's own last year - and worse still to start sharing tshirts with your father's picture on it - then set up your own canopy at the funeral grounds to conduct a rival service - is it possible to descend any lower? Have we no shame?
It is simply immoral to attempt to capitalize on someone else's sorrow and grief for your own personal gain and to push your own selfish agenda. There is a time for everything. We couldn't even wait a week before exposing ourselves!
God forgive this country of empty soulless religiosity. If it stinks so much to me a human being I wonder how heaven is coping.
If you really do not get how pitiful this is - how heartless this has made us look in the eyes of the world - then I really cannot help you. You are beyond such human decency. But for the sake of the few, I will try.
Get this into your head: ISIS/ISIL is an international threat. A worldwide crisis. Your Boko Haram is still classified as regional. There are more than 30 countries all over the world that have been battling regional terrorism for years. They don't come crying on social media for sympathy. They deal with their issues. Countries which are - let's face it - far more important and relevant to the rest of the world go through problems everyday without this kind of public indecency.
The enemy of my friend is my enemy. ISIS has killed and is killing Americans. So of course America and American companies and American interests will rally round their oldest friend and ally with whom they share a common enemy. The same way you would be more concerned and involved in issues involving your immediate family and close friends than about a stranger like me you merely met on Facebook. What is so difficult to comprehend in that???
The irony is that most Nigerians in the South never felt an ounce of pity or concern for the Northerners who were being oppressed by Boko Haram until the attacks moved closer to their 'interests' in Abuja. 'let those muslims be killing themselves there' was and - still is - a prevailing sentiment. Admit it.
And yet we expect total strangers to care more about us than we care for each other.
This just goes to show why we are where we are, why we are who we are and why we will probably still be here for many moons to come. Let us continue praying empty prayers in our places of worship. Those self-centered prayers will simply turn to harmattan breeze to torment us at night. We need to examine our hearts first and discover what it really means to love God and our neighbors as ourselves.
Shame on us. All of us.

Team Social Media - Action Not Flags

For all those with energy to discuss flags of countries and who to pray for and who not to pray for... Errrrrrm why don't you put your money where your mouth and fingers are.
Oya see worthwhile cause to support.
Practice what you've been preaching.
Don't pretend you are suddenly broke o. Abi you found money for data bundle.
Not everyday forming Facebook Warrior and Twitter Overlord.

I'm tired of the Facebook wars over nothing.
So I've decided to be a troll today.
It's almost December and some of us cannot honestly point to ONE person or ONE family we have helped this whole year without expecting anything in return.
(Paying your nanny, taking your mistress for lunch and dashing your guard 2k for weekend do not qualify as charity)
Why don't you try to end the year on a good note? Allow your conscience to speak to you.
Get behind this worthwhile cause. And find others as well.
Its not only in church that you can give o. So that people can see how God has blessed you. It's not only your Pastor that God says give to. Charity Begins At your doorstep.
Be someone's Father Christmas. Times are hard!
What you spend on suya and Hennessy can mean the difference between life or death for someone else.
A little boy out there in the streets will become the armed robber or suicide bomber of tomorrow. Because those who should have cared enough to help were fighting over flags.
If you mention the word 'flag' today kindly expect me on your thread in full troll mode.

Pray For the Best, Prepare for the Worst

There was so much death all around the world yesterday. Some blamed Friday the 13th.
We continue to pray for peace both in Nigeria and all other troubled spots.
But as a Christian I hate to remind us that this world is technically supposed to end... and not in a good way...
All these: climate change; terrorism; refugee crisis; wars; earthquakes and tsunamis; they are all pointing us in the same general direction... and it don't look too good. Don't expect any solutions anytime soon.
For example: those expecting Boko Haram to be permanently eradicated... i hate to disappoint you but history does not support such optimism. The best we can hope for is suppression and minimal casualties. And this only if we maintain permanent vigilance.
The irony is that we in naija are more likely to die from malaria and typhoid and childbirth and road accidents than any of these news-worthy cataclysms... at the end all die be die, abi? So weep rather for yourselves and for your children....
In summary; pray and work your hardest for the best; prepare for the worst.

Social Media Hooligans

Meeeeeeen. This Facebook won't allow somebori to be romantic in peace today. But I can't help myself.
Just observing some social media hooligans dancing up and down about the Ministerial appointments, about BH, about N5k allowance, about Biafrauds, about anything and everything.
Please let me say my mind:
Those of you who tried to subject us to another 4 years of hell under Jona; you should be aware that silence is your only logical option for now. Your incredibly poor sense of judgment in that regard can only be forgiven if you publicly repent or keep kwayet. Anything you say with such a pitiful background can only be taken with a barrel of salt.
You who profited greatly from the chaos of past administration; you who campaigned against PMB based on tribe and religion; you who descended deep into the gutter happily during election time; you think we have forgotten? We are just pitying you and hoping for the renewal of your mind. However you seem to be stuck in your past. Eiyaaa.
Those of you telling us the wonderful things Jonathan did - save it for someone who cares. If you have decided to be like Lot's wife and keep looking back at that mess please hurry up and turn to pillar of salt. And let's have some social media peace and quiet. We have a nation to build.
You think we have forgotten that the country virtually broke down after Jonathan conceded - and all the eye-service they were using to trick us that the country was working ended???
Now you have suddenly turned activist and you suddenly have a list of 5000 things the President should have done by now?
Don't be silly.
Run ye back into the hole from whence ye came.
When some of us are trying to keep our President and his team on their toes and on the straight and narrow don't think for one minute that we regret voting him in. Buhari is a million times the President that Jonathan could never be even in his wildest brandy-inspired dreams. Don't bother liking or commenting on posts that do not concern you.
If your wish is to cause confusion and point out weaknesses and set traps and wait for this administration to fail so you can dance your masquerade dance, let me refer you to the olodos who tried to set trap for Daniel in the bible. The Lions that are waiting to crush your bones are currently saying their prayers before meal.

Who is helping who?

Reality Check.
'My husband helps around the house.'
'My wife helps with the school fees.'
'My husband helps with the kids.'
'I help out with the cooking on weekends.'
'She helps out with managing the budget.'
.
.
.
.
.
This is why we can't have nice things.
Listen to yourself speak.
A man in his own house is 'helping' who? Cooking to feed who? Washing whose dirty pant? Taking care of whose kids?
That's how we will be clapping for a man because he simply took care of his own kids alone for a weekend. As if they suddenly dropped from heaven into his house. You are not scared to say you are 'baby-sitting' your own children. Hian.
A woman in her own house buying groceries to feed who? Contributing money for whose kids? Washing whose clothes? Taking out whose trash? Balancing whose budget? No be her own?
That's how we will be clapping for a woman that pays school fees. Why won't she pay? No be she find pikin?
A man and woman marry and they become one flesh. And they subsequently produce/adopt children and they become one family.
Anything you are doing for your family you are only 'helping' YOURSELF.
We should stop all this stereotyping.
Everyone in the house should tackle the tasks they are best skilled and positioned for to the benefit of the whole family. Stop dividing and demarcating family roles based on genitalia.

We are not Wailing Wailers. We are Constructive Criticisers.

The road to hell is paved with good intentions.
We've had well-meaning Presidents in the past. The last one came with a basket full of good intentions. He wanted to do it all by himself. Unfortunately his illness worsened and that was that. Not a single one of his good intentions outlived him. After him came the Pharaoh who knew not Joseph. And we suffered greatly under his rule.
Well, now our 'Moses' is here. And like his biblical counterpart he is unlikely to take us to the Promised Land. That's just the honest truth. He is too old; his time is too short; the issues are too many and the Promised Land is too damn far.
What he needs to do for us now is to establish systems and institutions and groom the Joshuas and Calebs that will continue his legacy. Forget about telling us how wicked Pharaoh was. We know. That's why we followed you. Even with your dodgy past and personal issues.
Remember the original Moses had a problem with delegation too. He was trying to run a one-man show. Until he borrowed sense. That Messiah complex appears to also be Buhari's weakness. I refer you guys back to Rev Kukah's speech at The Platform. He said some deep stuff. Read his quotes about why Buhari 'failed' his first time as Head of State.
As a chronic Buharist I understand why some of my comrades are all in their feelings when they see some of us criticising his government. But I would like them to put away the romanticism of the election period and allow this Government to do what we voted it in for.
Let me put it another way.
There's a reason most schools have what they call 'Continuous Assessment'. Almost every week there are tests and projects and assignments. And our kids are scored on all these; not only on the final exams.
You don't watch your child doing the wrong thing or possibly taking the wrong approach to studies and say 'give him/her more time'. No. You correct right at the beginning to ensure the end result is favourable! It's called tough love. If you wait till final exams it may be too late by then.
We are not Wailing Wailers. We are Constructive Criticisers.
Sai PMB.

6 Months, Still Waiting

November 29th will mark 6 months since the APC moved into Aso Rock.
I hope they know that the excuses we accepted at the '100 days' milestone will not be tolerated at 6 months.
Enough of 'quick wins' and body odour and putting out fires haphazardly.
This administration has a COMMUNICATION problem. We need to know what's going on and we need to know it now.
We need a PLAN. As the bible says, the vision must be MADE PLAIN. So that everyone knows where we are heading.
Some are promising N5k for the unemployed; some are promising portfolio-less ministers; some are promising free husbands for all single women... disjointed talk all over the place with no focus or direction.
Nigeria cannot be run like a neighborhood mama put or mechanic shop.
I prefer to criticize now so we can enjoy later, than to join the eternal praise singers and we find ourselves in a deeper ditch than we were before.
The same broom that swept out the old wife is waiting for the new wife...
